Panther Wrestlers Recognized At End Of Season Banquet

On Sunday evening the Saucon Valley wrestling family, including 1975 PIAA State Champion Gary Albright (1975), gathered together at the Steel Club to celebrate another memorable season of Panther wrestling.  About 200 wrestlers, parents, coaches and friends enjoyed great food, numerous laughs and a lot of sweet wrestling memories.

It was another great year for the Saucon Valley Wrestling Club to celebrate at their annual banquet.

On Sunday evening the Saucon Valley wrestling family, including 1975 PIAA State Champion Gary Albright, gathered together at the Steel Club to celebrate another memorable season of Panther wrestling.  About 200 wrestlers, parents, coaches and friends enjoyed great food, numerous laughs and a lot of sweet wrestling memories.

After a wonderful Steel Club buffet feast, wrestlers of all ages were recognized for both team and individual accomplishments.  It was a fantastic event to close out another fantastic year!

SVWC’s families and friends attended a delightful end-of-season banquet at the Steel Club.

Youth Award Recipients

  • Rookie of the Year:  Chris Fisk
  • Varsity Most Improved:  Jared Rohn
  • Most Improved (JV):  Brit Ash
  • Varsity MVP:  Cole Hubert
  • MVP (JV):  Mack Santoro

Braden Rohn (8U, 60 lbs.), Brit Ash (8U, 90 lbs.), Aaron Grogg (10U, 70 lbs.), Cole Hubert (12U, 65 lbs.) and Carter Chunko (10U, 60 lbs.) all qualified to represent Saucon Valley in the 2018 Youth PJW State Wrestling Tournament at the Mohegan Sun Arena on March 23 & 24.

  • Most Improved:  Alex Bortz
  • MVP:  Ty Pfizenmayer
  • Coach’s Award:  Dante Mahaffey

  • Most Outstanding Senior:  Jason Jones

Saucon Valley wrestling coach Chad Shirk recognizes Jason Jones as the Panthers’ 2018 “Most Outstanding Senior”.

A final award that has become a Saucon wrestling tradition is known as the “Mom WOW Spirit Award”.  This recognition, presented by Cathy (Bowers) Liebensperger and Kurt Bowers, is made in the honor of the late Lorraine Bowers. Better known to the Saucon Valley wrestling family as “Mom-Wow”, she was a Saucon Valley wrestling super-fan since 1966. PIAA state champion Brandon Palik was the first recipient of the coveted award in 2009.  This year’s “Mom-WOW” went to Angelo Mahaffey!

The Saucon Valley wrestling family broke bread in the Steel Club’s Blackplate Ballroom to celebrate the 2017-18 season.

Little Panther 6th grader Cole Hubert recognizes the 2018 youth wrestling coaches as SVWC President David Spirk looks on.

Coach Shirk pointed out a whole lot of good as he reflected on the 2017-18 wrestling season.

SVWC warmly welcomed SVHS Principal, Beth Guarriello, as the 2018 Wrestling Banquet Guest Speaker.

Due to his hard work and effort, Brit Ash proudly accepts his Most Improved wrestler award.

2018 PIAA Silver Medalist Josh Jones was named as the Panthers Most Valuable Wrestler.
