The 14-year-old Saucon Valley High School student who allegedly used the social media app Snapchat to threaten a school shooting Wednesday is no longer a student in the Saucon Valley School District, according to an email sent to parents by superintendent Dr. Craig Butler Friday.
“Within hours (of the student being identified)…the administration had levied discipline according to the school Code of Conduct,” Butler wrote.
“In continuing their investigation, the Lower Saucon Police discovered that the sender also threatened another student in a similar manner,” he said. “As a result, the student was detained and is no longer in attendance at the high school.”
Butler said the situation “was handled with promptness, and we are certain there is no danger to staff and students in the district.”
He also emphasized that “the message…gave a fictitious date and did not specify a specific school, nor a specific district.”
“Nonetheless,” he added, “we take all threats seriously.”
Lower Saucon Township Police said Thursday that after consulting with the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office the boy was referred to county juvenile authorities on a charge of terroristic threats and was subsequently detained in the Northampton County Juvenile Detention facility.
