A suspicious package that drew a local bomb squad and robot to the 3700 block of Old Philadelphia Pike in Lower Saucon Township Sunday evening was actually a bag with what may have been leftover party items inside it.
Township police in a post published on their Crimewatch website Monday said that officers were dispatched shortly before 8 p.m. for a report of a suspicious bag in the northbound lane of Old Philadelphia Pike in the area of the township municipal complex and the police department.
Police said the “bag was glowing and there was a blinking light illuminating from inside the bag.”
After the area was secured by police and fire personnel, the Bethlehem Fire Department Bomb Squad was notified, police said. With assistance from the department’s Bomb Squad robot the bag was then opened and “found to contain glow sticks and a balloon with a flashing light inside,” they said.
As a result of the police response, Old Philadelphia Pike was temporarily closed between Seidersville and Black River roads, with traffic detoured until the road reopened after 10 p.m.
