Christos George Orphanides (1936 – 2025)
Christos George Orphanides of Bucks County, Pa., was born on Aug. 19, 1936 and died on May 30, 2025. He was 88 years old. What a free spirit. Born in Greece, Christos grew up under hardship in a refugee camp in Athens with his parents and two sisters, whom he loved dearly. When he was a young boy, he overcame tuberculosis and yet went on to play professional soccer and excel academically. This earned him a scholarship to The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, fulfilling his dream of coming to America. There he played soccer and studied hard, overcoming a challenging language barrier. He moved to New York City and met his wife, Barbara, on New Year’s Eve in Times Square. They moved to Bucks County, where they built a life together. With his wife and mother-in-law, they opened the Cookery Ware Shop in Lahaska, Pa. He then built his own kitchenware wholesale and manufacturing companies. In his later years, he owned The Kitchen Drawer, a small retail business at The Quakertown Farmers Market. Christos loved to work and interact with people. Christos was known as a gentleman and was joyful, with boundless enthusiasm and vitality. He was passionate about dancing, music and playing guitar. He enjoyed traveling back to Greece and passed his love for that country and his heritage to his children and grandchildren. Christos’s strong will and love of life were with him to the end. He was surrounded by his children during his final days.
