Saucon Valley resident Franco DiCarlo has been working toward renovating the building at 662 Front Street and turning it into a modern, open-concept pizza and casual dining restaurant for close to a year.
Many Pennsylvania restaurant owners are no doubt breathing a sigh of relief after Gov. Tom Wolf announced Tuesday that they may increase the number of people in their establishments to 50 percent of their maximum seating capacity as of Monday, Sept. 21.

Like most events that are on tap this summer, Hellertown-Lower Saucon Restaurant Week is getting a reboot due to changes in restaurant operating procedures as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On June 5, when Northampton and Lehigh county’s moved into Pennsylvania’s post-pandemic yellow zone, restaurants were permitted to open up outside seating areas with restrictions in place to allow for social distancing. Most Hellertown area eateries that are able to accommodate al fresco meals are now doing so.
With the Lehigh Valley’s transition from the red phase of Pennsylvania’s coronavirus reopening to yellow, retail and restaurants in the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley began to come out of a two-and-a-half month hibernation Friday.
Some of the area’s most beloved food and drink establishments have been working hard to provide outdoor dining options for June reopenings.
With the huge impact the coronavirus shutdown is having on local restaurants, some have turned to crowdfunding to help support their furloughed staff, some of whom may be struggling to make ends meet. Among them are Braveheart Highland Pub in Hellertown, and Steel Club in Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township.
The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley has announced that it will host its semi-annual Restaurant Week from Sunday, Feb. 23 through Thursday, Feb. 27. During that time, guests at some of the Promenade Shops’ restaurants will be able to enjoy fixed price, multi-course lunch and dinner menus.
If you’re a foodie and you like a good deal, be sure to put Jan. 12-18 on your calendar. That’s when a record number of local eateries will participate in the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce’s twice-yearly Restaurant Week.
