Hellertown Police said in a news release last week that an Aug. 23 accident in which a northbound car struck a pole in the 1500 block of Main Street was DUI-related.

According to police, Douglass J. Marino, 23, of Maple Shade, N.J., was northbound on Main Street when he struck the pole at 12:40 a.m.

Police said Marino’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was measured at .11, which is .03 above the legal limit for most drivers.

The accident–which occurred in a curve and involved a pole that has been struck in the recent past–caused power to flicker in parts of north Hellertown. Readers reported the disruption in service on Saucon Source’s Facebook page.

Marino has been charged with DUI, police said.

Emergency officials respond to the scene of a single-car accident involving a telephone pole in the 1500 block of Main Street on Aug. 23, 2015.
