Prior to the 2015 school year, junior Josh Snead was better known athletically as a soccer player and basketball player. Maybe even a baseball player. However, considering his success on the gridiron, Josh has now made a name for himself as a quality kicker on the football team.

This was Josh Snead’s first year playing football. And a most memorable one at that. Not only was Josh part of a historical run by the Panthers, but his contributions were also enormous. With his 74 extra-points (PATs), Josh now owns the Saucon Valley single season and career kicking records.

A member of the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Josh is looking forward to being a “dual sport” athlete again next fall, participating in both soccer and football. When asked his thoughts about the difficulties of being a “dual-sport” athlete, Josh offered, “the hardest part was time management because sometimes I would not get home from school until 7 p.m. and I would still have to get my homework done.” He went on to say, “The best part of dual-sporting was getting to be a part of two different teams. It was a great experience.”

Along with accuracy, a kicker’s leg strength is a common metric used for evaluation purposes. As far as Josh’s kicking range is concerned, Coach Matt Evancho stated, “I feel his range is good from 35 yards in (45-yard field goal). I also think he has the potential to be solid from 40+ yards in. With another year to practice, he is only going to get better.”

Besides his kicking talents, Josh is an unselfish teammate. Even though he did not have the opportunity to try a field goal during a game this past season he was not at all upset. “It doesn’t really bother me because when we got into field goal range, we usually scored. Seven points is better than three.” Josh clearly values team success more than his personal accomplishments.

When asked to share his most memorable moment of the celebrated 2015 football season Josh revealed, “Having to make a tackle on a kickoff in my first game.” Coach Evancho added, “His first tackle wasn’t the prettiest, but it was effective. He got the ball carrier to the ground.”
