A Lower Saucon Township man is in Northampton County Prison on aggravated assault and other charges after police say he strangled a 38-year-old Hellertown woman at his residence early Sunday morning.

According to a township police news release, Jeremy Earl Hassett, 42, of the 1200 block of Seidersville Road, was at his apartment when officers responded to a report of a possible domestic dispute at around 6:30 a.m.

Officers then heard a woman screaming from upstairs, and “through investigation…learned that Hassett had assaulted (the woman) and strangled her with his hands” between 4 a.m. and the time police arrived, police said.

Bruising and red marks were observed on the woman, they added.

Following his arrest, Hassett was arraigned on charges of simple assault, unlawful restraint, recklessly endangering another person and harassment in addition to aggravated assault.

Police said he was committed to the prison in lieu of $50,000 straight bail.
