A new information kiosk at Main and Water streets near Hellertown Borough Hall will display timely community information to the thousands of motorists and pedestrians who pass by daily, borough manager Cathy Hartranft confirmed Wednesday.

The Borough of Hellertown recently received a grant to pay for the kiosk from both the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Main Street Foundation and the Northampton County Hotel Tax.

Hartranft said the proposed “pedestrian-friendly kiosk” will be outside the right-of-way in the grass area near the intersection, which is in the heart of the downtown.

It “is intended to serve as a resource to display municipal and public updates, as well as (allow) local groups to promote their community fundraisers or events,” she said.

Currently there are sandwich board-style signs that display this information outside Borough Hall.

The kiosk will feature a 32-inch non-interactive display screen contained within a powder-coated stainless steel frame underneath a steel canopy for visual attraction.

It will face pedestrian traffic and its design “corresponds appropriately with the Borough’s goal to create and promote a walkable community,” Hartranft said.
