PennDOT said in a traffic advisory Wednesday that motorists should expect to experience delays along Rt. 412 between Cherry Lane in Hellertown and Daly Avenue in Bethlehem–near the Sands casino–as crews from contractor HRI Inc. continue to pave the widened road, paint lines and install landscaping this week.
“Beginning Sunday, Oct. 9 through Saturday, Oct. 15, a single lane will be in effect 24 hours a day,” the statement said. “Travel lanes will be open with intermittent stoppages controlled by flaggers” along the length of the project corridor.
“The Interstate 78 interchange area will not be restricted during the (morning and evening rush hours),” PennDOT indicated.
Motorists should proceed through the work zone with caution and consider using alternate routes to reach their destination.
The paving work is part of the final phase of a road widening project between the I-78/Rt. 412 interchange and the casino that was budgeted at $36 million and began nearly four years ago.
