Est. Read Time: 2 mins

On Monday Lower Saucon Township Police released surveillance images of two men suspected of shoplifting at the Giant Food Store, 1880 Leithsville Road, Saturday night, and indicated in a post on their Facebook page that the items recovered from a backpack dropped by one of the men as he fled included ingredients for making tacos.quesadilla-575610_1280

Police said the incident began at about 7 p.m. Saturday, when an officer encountered two black men who were suspected of shoplifting inside the store.

“Upon the officer trying to speak with them one of the suspects took off on foot and the officer gave chase,” police said. “The male dropped a backpack which the officer recovered and (which) was later found to contain 3 pounds of ground beef, one bag of Kraft shredded Mexican cheese and one Ortega taco kit along with a pair of sneakers.”

Police said that by the time the officer who chased the first suspect returned to the store, the other suspect had also left the scene.

The Morning Call reported that officers subsequently combed a wooded area across the street from the Giant shopping center but were unable to locate the two men.

Anyone with information about their identities should contact township police via the Northampton County Non-Emergency Communications department at 610-759-2200.
