On the tenth day of highlighting Panther football record holders, Saucon Source wants to recognize junior Zach Petiet.
Zach wore #23 while playing running back and defensive back for the Panthers. He stands 5’7″ and weighs 150. Defensively, playing cornerback, Zach is credited with 21 tackles, 5 assists and 2 interceptions. Zach also claims a kickoff return for a score.
However, it is on the offensive side of the ball, where “Lightning” strikes most. This past season Zach rushed for 1,564 yards and 22 touchdowns. This puts Zach 7th for rushing yards and 4th for touchdowns in a season. Zach is also 4th overall with a total of 132 points scored in a season (2016). In addition, Zach’s 1,901 career rushing yards put him 10th on that list. His 27 career touchdowns are good enough for the 6th spot.
Who’s #1 for rushing yards in a season? Evan Culver (2015) rushed for 2,934 yards.
Who’s #1 for touchdowns in a season? Evan Culver (2015) had 48 touchdowns.
Who’s #1 for total points scored in a season? Evan Culver (2015) is credited with scoring 292 points.
Who’s #1 for rushing yards in career? Evan Culver (2012-2015) rushed for 4,937 total yards.
Who’s #1 for touchdowns in a career? Evan Culver (2012-2015) scored a total of 77 touchdowns.
Zach said it: “My best Saucon Valley football memory is the bus rides to the playoff games when everybody was outside on Main Street cheering and taking pictures. It was also great to win the Colonial League for the past three years.”
Coach Phil Sams said it: “Zach Petiet did something not many people can do. When Nate Kehs went down with an injury, Zach became the starting running back. In only seven regular season starts he led the Colonial League in rushing. But, somehow he was overlooked and recognized as 2nd Team All-League. On the other side of the ball he was a lockdown cornerback who opposing teams consistently challenged. The funny thing is that he won almost every single challenge!”
Congratulations, Zach, and best wishes in the future. The Source is with you!
