In a news release issued Friday, police said Jared R. Ritter, 31, of the 400 block of Willow Road, Hellertown, allegedly left the scene of the 2:55 a.m. accident in the 1800 block of Mansfield Street, but was identified through an investigation in which a caller reported seeing “suspects (who) came and took the dune buggy away in a pickup truck.”

Police said the dune buggy was soon found at Ritter’s address and that “the engine was still warm on the vehicle.”

Ritter then allegedly admitted to being the driver of the vehicle, police said.

He is charged with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance, driving without headlights and taillights and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage, according to police and court records.
