Lower Saucon Township Police are investigating damage to a mailbox in the 2300 block of Black River Road that occurred when a car struck it around 10 a.m. Sunday and failed to stop to alert the owner.

In a news release, police said the homeowner whose mailbox was struck and knocked off its post heard a loud noise while doing yard work at around 10 a.m. and discovered the damage about an hour later.

Tire tracks through an area of brush were discovered near the mailbox along with a broken piece of a mirror that was identified as a Volkswagen part, police said.

The mirror was silver, they added.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who knows of a silver VW missing a passenger side mirror and mirror cover is asked to call township police at 610-317-6110.
