Adorned Accessories, a unique boutique featuring Boho Chic style clothing and accessories, opened in Hellertown earlier this summer.
Owner Haley Mertz, a student at Kutztown University, and her mother Laura Mertz decided to expand their online presence into the Shoppes at Hellertown beside DiMaio’s Family Ristorante & Pizzeria.
Adorned Accessories Boutique is located next to DiMaio’s in the Shoppes at Hellertown on Main Street.
“We love being next to DiMaio’s and The Hellertown Diner,” Mertz said. She added that she and her mom both like the friendly vibe of Hellertown and love “how cute the town is.”
When scouting for places to open the brick-and-mortar version of their two-year-old online business, Mertz said the Shoppes at Hellertown was the first location they looked at. Mertz used to live in Hellertown, which was a key reason why she looked into the available spaces in the borough.
Adorned Accessories carries a range of clothing and accessories, including jewelry, socks and ties.

Coming soon, Mertz said, will be jeans and leggings.
The store also offers loyalty rewards. For every $25 spent, a customer receives one stamp on a loyalty card. After accumulating 10 stamps, they will receive $20 off their next purchase.
When asked how she would characterize the merchandise Adorned Accessories sells, Mertz said it is primarily “Boho Chic,” with some business casual wear as well. Though they mostly carry women’s clothing Mertz said they will be adding more men’s accessories to their line-up in the future.
Adorned Accessories Boutique carries many apparel items that are fun and even whimsical, like these socks.
Although the store doesn’t sell major name brands, there are pieces by one designer, Ariella from Los Angeles, who Mertz met during a buying show in Manhattan. Ariella has been approached by big-box stores but wants to keep selling her line in small boutiques like Adorned Accessories, Haley Mertz said.
“Ariella is a very young designer and she makes very beautiful clothing,” she said.
Mertz would also like to help showcase local artists’ jewelry and handmade goods in her shop. In fact, they already carry handmade candles from Hilltop Candle Company, which are made and sold by Deborah Valentin, the owner of Charming Grace Boutique on Main Street in Hellertown.
Adorned Accessories Boutique recently started selling soy candles made by Hilltop Candle Co. of Hellertown.
Besides unique merchandise, Mertz said one of the key features of her store is the welcoming, helpful staff. “We will always give you our true opinion–we will never try to ‘sell’ you something,” she said. “We want you to find something that you love.”
“I love to wear simple and comfortable outfits like t-shirts and jeans but turn them into WOW outfits with the perfect accessories!” Mertz said. Being able to help people find what they love is a passion for the communications major.
Mertz said she sees a good mix of new and familiar faces on the days when the shop is open.

Currently, the store’s hours are Thursday through Sunday and vary from day to day to allow Mertz to run her business and attend Kutztown.
Adorned Accessories is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. In addition to the store’s regular hours, they are also open for private “Girls’ Night Out” events at the shop.
When asked how these events run, Mertz said it depends on what the customers want from the staff.
Staff can help style the customers, play games or just hang out as they have a private get-together and shop. Customers meet with staff before the event to discuss what type of event they may want to have.

Adorned Accessories also hosts charity events, and will donate 15 percent of the evening’s total sales to the customer’s chosen charity.
