Christ Lutheran Church, 69 Main St., Hellertown, will present Pete Enns–a well-known Bible scholar, author, blogger and podcaster–in a program at the church on Saturday, May 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
The program will include two lectures as well as question-and-answer sessions and a book-signing.
Enns, a professor at Eastern University in St. Davids, Pa., will be lecturing on and discussing his recent book, “The Sin of Certainty.”
With insight and humor, Enns explores what goes wrong when we have “believing the right things” at the center of our faith and what, instead, should be standing there, the church said in a news release about the talk.
“For those who have experienced their once rock-solid beliefs beginning to falter, Enns offers hope and guidance for finding a more trustworthy anchor,” it said. “By exploring scripture and reflecting on his own journey, Enns reveals that challenges and crises of faith may be opportunities for deepening our faith.”
Enns (PhD, Harvard University) is Abram S. Clemens Professor of Biblical Studies at Eastern and the originator of the popular podcast “The Bible for Normal People,” which has been billed as “The Only God-Ordained Podcast on the Internet.”
He is the author of numerous books and articles, including “The Bible Tells Me So: Why Defending Scripture Has Made Us Unable to Read It,” and his blog posts cover topics as diverse as “Faith and Life,” “Doubt” and “Aha Moments.”
The cost to attend the Pete Enns program is $20 and includes lunch.
Registration is required and begins at 9:30 a.m.
