Hellertown police say a Palmerton woman has been charged with allegedly stealing a handgun from a borough residence in June.
In a news release Thursday, police said Amy L. Freed, 32, of the first block of Penn Avenue, is charged with theft of a firearm (a second-degree felony) and receiving stolen property (a second-degree felony).
Following her arrest, police said Freed was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Alan Mege and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Police said their investigation into the theft began the morning of June 19, when a resident of the 100 block of New Street reported the theft of the handgun.
