A Hellertown resident says she is a regular witness to tractor-trailers turning off Rt. 412 and down narrow Kichline Avenue, where they then become stuck because they cannot make the turn onto Clauser Street.
Annette Baranowski documented two such incidents Wednesday morning, sharing the photos at left and below with Saucon Source.
Hellertown Police can be seen in some of the photos assisting the drivers of the trucks with backing out of the residential side street.
At one point as a driver attempted to back up Kichline Avenue to the light at Main Street (Rt. 412) the man stopped and got out of his vehicle, apparently unsure of what he should do, Baranowski said, adding that she then called borough police to alert them to the situation.
These incidents come after Hellertown Police Chief Robert Shupp told council earlier this month that his department doesn’t frequently receive reports of stuck trucks on Kichline Avenue and nearby side streets.
Baranowski, however, said “I always witness it first-hand.”
Shupp addressed another recent incident in which a truck became stuck on Clauser Street and said that starting in December the borough will need to pay for an engineering study if it wants to prohibit trucks on a local road.
