The Fountain Hill Community Pool–which was built in the late 1950s–is one step closer to being rehabilitated thanks to a $28,200 grant announced Tuesday by State Rep. Jeanne McNeill (D-133). The funding, provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnership Program, will be used to conduct a feasibility study assessing the pool’s rehabilitation needs.
Located next to the Stanley Avenue playground and athletic fields, the pool is a community fixture, but has faced challenges in recent years due to disrepair. After a nearly three-year closure, the pool reopened last summer after volunteers from the Fountain Hill Community Coalition and the borough worked to renovate it.
“This is the first step in the rehabilitation of the Fountain Hill Community Pool in Fountain Hill Borough,” McNeill said in a Nov. 12 news release. “This will not only facilitate our economy by creating more jobs, but it also will give back to our community that wants to see the community pool improved.”
The feasibility study will provide critical information to guide future decisions regarding the pool’s rehabilitation.
