Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) saw a 2.6 percent decrease in passenger traffic in October compared to October 2023 due to severe weather conditions in Florida and North Carolina, according to a press release.

The airport reported 82,514 passengers traveling through its gates in October, down from 84,747 passengers in October 2023. According to ABE Executive Director Thomas R. Stoudt, approximately 22 flights were canceled at ABE due to hurricanes Milton and Helene, significantly impacting the overall passenger count.

“Our thoughts and prayers are still with everyone recovering from the effects of both devastating storms,” Stoudt said.

Despite the passenger traffic decrease, ABE saw a 3.5 percent increase in air cargo, processing 24,345,021 pounds last month compared to 23,516,583 pounds in October 2023.

Among the airlines operating at ABE, American saw a significant increase in passenger numbers, jumping 36.1 percent compared to last October. Delta experienced a 5.9 percent decline, while United dropped 9 percent and Allegiant saw a 12.1 percent decrease in traffic.

ABE will be conducting a site survey in several public parking areas starting Dec. 2, resulting in the closure of the Short-Term Parking Lot, Aero Club Lot and a partial section of the Long-Term Parking Lot from Dec. 2 through Dec. 13. The Long-Term Parking Lot and Overflow Parking will remain accessible during the closure.
