A local grocery retailer has organized a fundraising effort to benefit the victims of last week's chocolate factory explosion in West Reading, Berks County; one of the deadliest explosions to occur in the U.S. in recent years.
Although Sunday's blustery conditions subsided somewhat Monday, the combination of stiff breezes and dry conditions means the risk of wildfires remains elevated across eastern Pennsylvania.
A decade or so ago there were four independent fire companies in Lower Saucon Township, but following several mergers today there is only one. What hasn't changed is the dedication and community commitment of the township's volunteer firefighters, who continue to use all four fire stations.
