What do you call on 4th & 5 from midfield when your team is down in the District XI championship game?  How about a shovel-pass to the tight end?  That is exactly what the Panthers called and converted Saturday night against Bethlehem Catholic.  Not a whole lot went right for the Panthers in the loss against the powerful Hawks, but this play did.

For the fourth year in a row the Saucon Valley Panthers (7-4) will square off against the Bethlehem Catholic Golden Hawks (9-2) in the District XI finals.  The No. 3 Panthers stole the show (and the ball) last week to advance with a lopsided victory over No. 2 Allentown Central Catholic.  No. 1 Bethlehem Catholic thumped No. 4 Pottsville 48-7.  This year the showdown will take place at Nazareth Area High School with a 7 p.m.  kickoff.  A victory will keep the hopes for a PIAA state championship alive for one of these teams while a loss will bring the 2017 season to a close.

Panther Play of the Week: Mongo Likes Turnovers (Brought to You by Hellertown Bakery)

On Saturday night the Saucon Valley Panthers played lights-out defense and held the Allentown Central Catholic Vikings to only 10 points.  This is well below their season average of scoring 34 per game.  A simple explanation is that the opportunistic Panthers forced the Vikings to cough up an amazing eight turnovers.  Saucon Valley intercepted Central Catholic five times and recovered three of their fumbles.
