A Hellertown woman who allegedly drove with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) nearly three times the legal limit has been charged with DUI (highest rate BAC), borough police said in a news release this week.
According to police, Kelly Lynn Braun, of the first block of W. Saucon Street, was arrested after she was allegedly observed speeding without headlights on Main Street near Easton Road shortly before 3 a.m. Jan. 31.
Police said in the news release that an officer used lights and “audible equipment” in an attempt to stop Braun in the 600 block of Main Street, but she “accelerated and continued several blocks before turning right into the parking lot of Braveheart Pub.”
Braun then turned south on Harris Street and onto W. Saucon Street, before stopping, the release said.
Police said she was approached and displayed “classic indications of impairment,” including glassy, blood-shot eyes, a “confused demeanor” and a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.”
Braun was determined to have a .23 percent BAC following processing at the Bethlehem DUI Center, authorities added.
The legal limit for most drivers in Pennsylvania is .08 percent BAC.
In addition to DUI, Braun has been charged with careless driving and a headlight violation.
According to an article published by the Express-Times, police decided not to charge Braun with fleeing and eluding because she didn’t go very far before stopping.
