The Lower Saucon Township Police Department’s K-9 team is now able to better serve local residents, thanks to a grant from the DeSales University Master of Arts in Criminal Justice degree program.

The grant–which funded equipment for K-9 Officer Steven Kunigus and his partner Atos–was announced by the police department in a post on its Facebook page Thursday.

The equipment includes a K-9 trauma kit, a K-9 overdose kit, a harness and an E-Quick tactical collar.

The department extended its special thanks for the grant to DeSales MCJ Program Director Dr. Katherine Ramsland.

Officer Kunigus and Atos were recently profiled in a segment about service animal care that was broadcast on The Peak TV.

The episode explained how Atos was cared for and recovered after he suffered a serious dental injury in the line of duty.
