SVMS Students Struttin’ Their Stuff in Local Contest

As a part of Saucon Valley’s Middle School iTeam, I was lucky to get a chance to participate in the “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” video contest. The manufacturing contest is one in which local schools are assigned a manufacturing company. They tape and create a video to best represent the company and to show everyone the “cool” part in manufacturing.

What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?

Kennedy Morgan – 8th Grader at Saucon Valley Middle School

As a part of Saucon Valley’s Middle School iTeam, I was lucky to get a chance to participate in the “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” video contest. The manufacturing contest is one in which local schools are assigned a manufacturing company.  They tape and create a video to best represent the company and to show everyone the “cool” part in manufacturing.

It was an incredible experience to get a behind the scenes look at the manufacturing process and the fundamental components of a business.  We were afforded an opportunity to visit Bosch Rexroth, a hydraulics manufacturing company.  After filming an inside look at what goes on to make the amazing products that we all know so well (John Deere, Caterpillar, etc.), all of the members of the eighth grade iTeam had a better understanding of how manufacturing companies work.

We gathered all of our footage and began to sort through the hours of film.  This process was very difficult because everything that we captured was so interesting and could have been incorporated into the final product.  Unfortunately, the two and a half minute time limit entailed a lot of editing and cuts that we would have to make.

We spent many days and after school hours editing in an attempt to achieve the best possible end result.  Throughout this process, the five eighth graders found ourselves working more cohesively than we ever had before.  With all of our teamwork and agreements to divide and conquer the many tasks at hand, we were able to achieve a final video that we can all be proud of.  In the end of this whole process, we can all easily say that the question of “What’s so cool about manufacturing?” has been answered; everything about manufacturing is cool.  It’s as simple as that.

Please help Saucon Valley win the Viewer’s Choice Award for the “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” video contest! The 8th grade iTeam members have worked very hard over the past few months to represent the Bethlehem-based company Bosch Rexroth Corporation.
