The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the Lehigh Valley effective through 12 a.m. Tuesday for strong winds that could bring down tree limbs and cause power outages.

According to the advisory statement, westerly winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts of 45 to 50 mph are expected Monday night.

“A wind advisory means that very windy conditions are expected,” the NWS said. “Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.”

Residents should “use extra caution” when driving and secure lightweight outdoor objects such as patio furniture and garbage cans, the statement indicated.

The high winds are arriving due to the passage of a cold front, according to a post on the Eastern PA Weather Authority Facebook page.

Beyond the next few days, the forecast for the first week of April is for below normal temperatures, which will mark an unusual departure from recent warmth.

“Very cold temperatures and even the chance for snow showers (are expected) as we head into the first few days of April,” according to Pennsylvania Weather Action, another regional forecaster. “Mother nature does not want to make her mind up.”
