Gold Medal Flour Products Recalled Due to E. Coli Outbreak

Following a recall by General Mills Inc., Giant Food Stores announced Wednesday it is removing from sale select Gold Medal products that are potentially linked to an outbreak of E. coli 0121.

Following a recall by General Mills Inc., Giant Food Stores announced Wednesday it is removing from sale select Gold Medal products that are potentially linked to an outbreak of E. coli 0121.

The following products are included in the recall:

  • Gold Medal Wondra Quick Mixing Flour, 13.5 oz., UPC 1600018980 with Better if Used by Dates of 25FEB2017 through 30MAR2017
  • Gold Medal All Purpose Flour, 2 lb., UPC 1600010710 with Better if Used by Dates of25MAY2017KC through 03JUN2017KC
  • Gold Medal All Purpose Flour, 5 lb., UPC 1600010610 with Better if Used by Dates of25MAY2017KC, 27MAY2017KC through 31MAY2017KC, 01JUN2017KC, 03JUN2017KC through 05JUN2017KC, 11JUN2017KC through 14JUN2017KC
  • Gold Medal Unbleached All Purpose Flour, 5 lb., UPC 1600019610 with Better if Used by Dates of 25MAY2017KC, 27MAY2017KC, 03JUN2017KC, 04JUN2017KC

“Although most strains of E. coli are harmless, others can make you sick,” Giant said. “E. coli 0121 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration. Seniors, the very young and persons with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to foodborne illness.”

Customers who have purchased any of the recalled products should discard unused portions and bring their purchase receipt(s) to any Giant store for a full refund.
