Last season Saucon Valley conquered the “tour for four”. This season they “strive for five”.

If you’re Saucon Valley’s record setting head wrestling Coach Chad Shirk, you probably feel pretty good about the state of Panther wrestling. All three levels of the program (high school, junior high and youth) showcased their skills and put together impressive performances at different tournaments throughout the state over the weekend.

The Saucon Valley high school team went 5-0 on Saturday to win the Biglerville-Canner Duals. The Panthers are now 9-0 for the season and in pursuit of a 5th consecutive Colonial League title.

Saucon Valley is youth wrestling at its best!

Saturday the Saucon Valley youth wrestlers defeated Palmer (63-19), Lehighton (73-16), Pocono Mountain East (61-24), and Palmerton (70-24) in league contests to keep a hold on first place in their division within the Valley Elementary Wrestling League.

On Sunday, the Little Panthers traveled to Lancaster to participate in the McCaskey Invitational Duals. Even though Saucon was giving up three forfeits throughout the day, the Little Panthers participated in the advanced and more difficult “Club” division and went 3-2 against some of the best competition to be found.  Coach Ben Chunko congratulated his wrestlers saying, “We wrestled arguably some of the best young kids in the country, and we did great!”

Saucon Valley Youth:

  • lost a close one to the Bandits (Virginia)
  • lost to Ride Out wrestling club (western PA and W. VA.)
  •  defeated Smyrna (DE)
  •  defeated LAW  (PA)
  •  defeated New Oxford (PA)

Up Next:  The Wilson Warrior high school wrestling squad, with their 9-1 record, come to Hellertown on Tuesday night to take on the Panthers. Junior high starts at 6 p.m with the varsity to follow.  It will be VERY intense competition!

Good luck Panthers,  the Source is with you!

The new banner will include 2016 for League and District champs!
