Bethlehem Police Monday announced charges against a Lower Saucon Township man they say was in possession of 15 grams of meth (methamphetamine), a scale, $2,000 in cash and “packaging material consistent with packaging drugs to sell” when he was stopped by the department’s Street Crimes Unit for an alleged traffic violation at Fourth and Edwards streets Thursday at approximately 5 p.m.

In a news release published online, police said Sami Mirza, 27, of the 1500 block of Bette Lane, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and a summary traffic offense.

The meth has an estimated street value of $1,050, police added.

Mirza was arraigned before Northampton County Magisterial District Judge Jackie Taschner and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $150,000 straight bail, police said.

Online court records indicate Mirza remains in jail as of Monday.

Police said the $2,000 and Mirza’s vehicle, a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck, will be seized by the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office.

“Bethlehem is a great community to live and work in,” police said. “Individuals like this, who sell drugs and promote violence, have no place in our City. The Bethlehem Police Department is committed to investigating and arresting all those responsible for the distribution of drugs and/or violent crimes in our community.”

The Bethlehem Police Department encourages everyone to contact the Bethlehem Police Department to report suspicious activity.
