Lower Saucon Township officials want to help educate local residents about which roads are locally-maintained and which are state-maintained–before, during and after winter storms.

Each winter Lower Saucon Township staff say they field numerous calls from motorists who have a question or concern regarding the condition of a particular roadway. For that reason, township officials want to help educate local residents about which roads are locally-maintained and which are state-maintained–before, during and after winter storms.
“Although there are approximately 87 miles of township roads, there are an additional 30-plus miles of state-maintained roads (in Lower Saucon Township) as well,” the township noted in its December e-newsletter.
The Township Public Works Department doesn’t remove snow or ice from state roads for liability reasons, the newsletter indicated.
Motorists and residents who have questions or concerns regarding maintenance of the following roadways this winter are encouraged to contact PennDOT at 610-250-1840:
  • Route 378
  • Route 412
  • Lower Saucon Road between Easton Road and the Williams Township line
  • Seidersville Road from Hickory Hill Road west to the Salisbury Township line
  • Easton Road from Cherry Lane to the Williams Township line
  • Riverside Drive between Shimersville and Redington roads
  • Friedensville Road between Bingen Road and the Hellertown borough line
  • Hickory Hill Road between Seidersville and Friedensville roads
  • Applebutter Road between Lower Saucon and Shimersville roads
  • Bingen Road between Black River and Friedensville roads
  • Black River Road between 378 and Bingen Road
  • Redington Road between Lower Saucon Road and Riverside Drive
  • Flint Hill Road between 412 and the Springfield Township line

Additional information about snow removal in Lower Saucon Township can be found here.

Information about snow removal policies and procedures in the borough of Hellertown–including the borough’s list of established snow emergency routes–can be found here.

Unlike in Lower Saucon Township, the borough of Hellertown’s public works department has a contract to maintain state roads in town during winter storms. State roads include Main Street (Rt. 412), Easton Road and W. Water Street.
