The Saucon Valley Farmers Market will return for its 19th season this Sunday, May 5 next to the Hellertown Area Library at 409 Constitution Ave., Hellertown. The market is held on the field next to the library–across from Dimmick Park–Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from early May through late November, rain or shine. (This year’s last market day will be Nov. 24; the Sunday before Thanksgiving.)

A volunteer-run, community-based organization, the market features more than 30 local vendors selling fresh produce, meat, eggs, cheese, baked goods, prepared foods, plants, flowers, wine, coffee, pet products, soap, seasonal items, crafts and more. The fourth Sunday of each month, the market hosts local artisans selling their wares at “Art in the Park.” There is live music each week and special events are also held throughout the season. One of those events is the annual Sunflower Seed Head Contest sponsored by Lost River Caverns, which rewards the growers of the largest sunflower heads with prizes each September. Free seed packets and instructions will be available at the market’s information booth beginning Sunday for anyone who would like to participate.

Sunday’s music will be provided by folk musicians Cliff Cole and DayBreak, whose performance is sponsored by Lost River Caverns. Other sponsors of this year’s market include Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Frey’s Better Foods, Saucon Source LLC, Liberty Wealth Management-Ben Chunko, Center Street Center, the Farruggia Family, Kathy and Larry Sutton, Saucon Valley Sporting Goods, Hellertown’s Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397, Christ Lutheran Church-Hellertown, Braveheart Highland Pub and Hellertown Area Library.

Also on Sunday, Saucon Valley High School Environmental Club representatives will be in the community booth. (Update: The Backyard Bar Co., a mobile bar business, will be at the May 5 market.)

Well-behaved dogs are welcome at the market as long as they are leashed. Free parking is available in the library lot and along Constitution Avenue. More information about becoming a vendor, a sponsor, an artisan and/or a volunteer at the market is available at SVFMPA.com. Follow the market on Facebook and Instagram to receive updates on social media throughout the season.
