A 20-year-old former borough man is accused of assaulting Hellertown borough police officers while they were attempting to arrest him on outstanding bench warrants earlier this month.

A 20-year-old former borough man is accused of assaulting Hellertown borough police officers while they were attempting to arrest him on outstanding bench warrants earlier this month.

According to a May 23 police news release, Stone Ayinda Butler of Linden, N.J., was apprehended in the 300 block of Main Street, Hellertown, on the morning of May 13.

Police said Butler “attempted to fight with police and assaulted two officers when he was being apprehended” shortly before 11:30 a.m.

According to the docket filed in the case in Northampton County District Court 03-2-04, Butler is charged with two Felony 2 counts of aggravated assault and one Felony 3 count of evading arrest or detention.

As of Thursday, Butler was incarcerated in Northampton County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail, court records showed.

A preliminary hearing before District Judge Alan Mege was scheduled for Friday, May 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the district court in Lower Saucon Township.

The docket did not list an attorney for Butler.
