A 20-year-old Whitehall man was charged with two felony firearms offenses following a traffic stop in Lower Saucon Township last month.
According to township police, on the evening of Oct. 24 Raymond Glenn Jackson III was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped in the 1400 block of Illes Lane for a suspended registration plate.
After police obtained consent to search the vehicle, they said they found a handgun with an “obliterated serial number” in a bag in the backseat area of the car, where Jackson was a passenger.
Police said Jackson was subsequently arrested and charged with possessing a firearm with an altered manufacturer’s serial number (Felony 2) and carrying a firearm without a license (Felony 3).
A preliminary arraignment for Jackson was held in Northampton County District Court on Oct. 25, and he was subsequently committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail by District Judge Alan Mege, according to court records.
As a result of a bail modification motion, Jackson’s bail was reduced to $100 on Nov. 7, according to the court docket filed in his case.
Jackson’s formal arraignment in the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m.
Jackson is being represented by Allentown attorney Joshua Karoly, according to the docket.
