A number of residents of Magnolia Road, Saucon Street and other primarily residential streets near the former Reinhard School in Hellertown attended a council meeting Monday to share their concerns about a conceptual proposal to construct a 17,000 square foot public works building there.
In a few short weeks the Bank of America branch at 5 Main Street in Hellertown borough will close, and a building that has housed a succession of bank branches for nearly 50 years will likely sit empty. Would you prefer that another bank open in its place, or would you like to see a different type of business rent the building?
Note: This story has been updated with additional information. A pickup truck crashed into a popular Main Street, Hellertown restaurant shortly after midnight Sunday, drawing emergency responders to the scene and resulting in the temporary closure of Main Street–which is Route 412–at Water Street. Photos taken by a reader at the scene showed a dark-colored truck embedded in the front wall of Sagra Bistro, which is located at 620 Main Street. Bricks from the building are clearly dislodged in one of the photos, and a front window is askew. A resident of nearby Penn Street reported that the sound of the collision was heard around the corner.
