Over 100 people attended Sunday's Memorial Day service in Hellertown's Union Cemetery, during which Edward H. Ackerman American Legion Post 397 Commander Eric Medei exhorted them to remember the sacrifices made by the men and women who have defended the United States and the freedoms its citizens enjoy.

A number of municipalities and organizations throughout the area will be hosting observances this weekend, some of which were highlighted in a Northampton County news release Monday.

The ceremony will cap a weekend of celebrating the school's new graduates and will follow Intercultural Graduation and Baccalaureate, which are both being held Friday, May 3.
Cedar Crest College to Break Ground on Softball Field Upgrades
The renovations, which will cost $2.5 million, will convert the grass field into an all-weather, all-year playing surface with improved drainage and lighting, the college said.

The Pennsylvania State Police announced the promotions of six officers Tuesday, including Salisbury Township native Lt. Shawn M. Haines, who has been assigned Commander of the Criminal Investigation Section at Troop M, which is headquartered in Bethlehem.
