At a meeting Tuesday, the Saucon Valley School Board decided to form an ad hoc committee to help analyze and prioritize recommendations for facilities upgrades within the school district. The decision followed a discussion about the upgrades, and why they may be needed. In some cases, the educational value of the district’s facilities has diminished due to their age. For example, the TV studio–which is heavily used by students–is equipped with antiquated technology that would no longer be encountered in a real world television production environment, superintendent Monica McHale-Small said. In other cases the upgrades are being recommended because they will help bring the district into compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Education standards.

One of the recommendations in the Lower Saucon Township Economic Development Task Force report that was presented to township council in October was to form a citizen committee made up of residents who would be tasked with reviewing the township’s policies and its permitting process, and making recommendations to township council. That committee is now forming. Lower Saucon residents interested in serving on the committee–which will be meeting during 2015–should send an email to the Township Manager at manager@lowersaucontownship.org by Jan. 17, 2015.
