Just as there was no joy in Mudville when Casey struck out at bat, there was seemingly little joy in Hellertown when borough council Monday declined to help underwrite this year’s Dewey Fire Co. fireworks display. There is still hope for the beloved boomers, however, thanks to community members who are raising money to help the volunteer fire company pay for them.

The star of the popular reality TV series Orange County Choppers will be the headliner at the first-ever Hellertown Bikefest–a July 18 motorcycle run that will begin and end in Hellertown with a festival for motorcycle enthusiasts. The event will be held in conjunction with Dewey Fire Company’s 100th anniversary carnival. Paul Teutel Sr. will lead the bike run back to Hellertown from Orange County Choppers headquarters in Newburgh, N.Y., according to a flyer and registration form for Bikefest, which calls it “a place to forget everything and meet your fellow bikers and reconnect with your community.” The event is being co-sponsored by Dewey Fire Co., Orange County Choppers and the Heintzelman Family. Hellertown business owner David Heintzelman is a well-known motorcycle afficionado, and made headlines in 2014 with his purchase of a custom-made motorcycle hearse that he purchased from Orange County Choppers for Heintzelman Funeral Home.
