Lower Saucon Township Police Tuesday announced charges against a Bethlehem man they said was intercepted with 16 packages of synthetic marijuana in September.

In a news release, police said Ishana Abdus-Sabur, no age given, of the 900 block of E. 4th St., was stopped shortly before 10 p.m. Sept. 13 after he was allegedly “observed crossing both the center and the fog lines” with “greatly varying speed” on Easton Road. At one point Abdus-Sabur “slowed so abruptly a motorcycle had to take evasive action so (as) not to run (into) the back of his vehicle,” police said.

After he was stopped, police said Abdus-Sabur exhibited signs of impairment from a controlled substance.

He was arrested and processed, and blood evidence later confirmed the presence of synthetic marijuana in his system, according to the news release.

Police said the packages of synthetic marijuana were found during a vehicle inventory.

Abdus-Sabur is charged with careless driving, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

“Synthetic cannabis (synthetic marijuana), or technically synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists are designer drugs that mimic the effects of cannabis sprayed onto a herbal base material,” according to one definition.
