The summer can sometimes be a bit boring for kids, as well as challenging for parents accustomed to the regular school schedule and extracurricular activities that keep them occupied.
And while there are many athletic and traditional camps kids can participate in over the summer months, there are fewer opportunities locally for them to explore the arts in a structured atmosphere that encourages creativity and fun.
The Art Establishment in Fountain Hill–a working visual arts studio open to everyone, regardless of ability–is looking to change that with its one-week Creation Station summer art camps for kids to be held June 20 through Aug. 19, 2016.
Instructor-led AM (9 a.m. to noon), PM (1 to 4 p.m.) and all-day camps are available Monday through Friday for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.
Camps will include a pottery project and printmaking project each week, as well as activities like painting, papermaking, recycled art, sculpting and more.
The following subjects will be the themes for the summer art camps:
- June 20-24: In the Garden
- June 27-July 1: Walk in the Woods
- July 5-8: Americana
- July 11-15: At the Beach
- July 18-22: Earth Week
- July 25-29: Science and Art
- Aug. 1-5: Fantasy Art
- Aug. 8-12: Famous Artists
- Aug. 15-19: Art From the Heart
Morning or afternoon camps are $150, while all-day camps are $275 per student. Discounts are available for families with more than one child signed up for the same week, along with Flex Passes ($160 for any five drop-in sessions; $300 for any 10 drop-in sessions).
Online registration is available for the art camps, along with the other youth-oriented classes The Art Establishment offers throughout the year, such as special needs art classes for kids and young adults and everything from a manga course to an introduction to basic drawing techniques.
You can even host a birthday party at The Art Establishment, which is located at 945 Broadway in Fountain Hill, just a short drive from the Saucon Valley.
Free tours of the studio are always available, or call 610-807-9201 for more information.
