Homeland Security Will Conduct Nationwide Emergency Alert System Test Wednesday

On Sept. 28, 2016 at 2:20 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau will conduct a test of the Emergency Alert System.

According to an email sent to Service Electric cable television subscribers Tuesday, “the nationwide test will assess the reliability and effectiveness of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The test message will clearly state that the alert is only a test of EAS. (A) FEMA will alert will be transmitted in English and Spanish and include both audio and the text of the test. These improvements will help ensure that all members of the public, including non-English speakers and individuals with disabilities, will receive the emergency information.”
