Under a new directive, on Thursday Lower Saucon Township Police issued a monthly police report for January detailing the work of the department and crime statistics.

It indicates that the department investigated three burglaries (one of which involved the theft of more than $10,000 from the Speedway gas station and convenience store on Rt. 378), six larceny thefts (which resulted in three arrests), 10 cases of fraud, two cases of vandalism/criminal mischief (resulting in one arrest) and one weapons offense (resulting in an arrest).

Police also arrested six adults and one juvenile for drug violations, and eight adults for DUI, the report says.

Some of the other statistics for January are:

  • Eighteen 911 hangup calls
  • 19 animal complaints
  • 5 domestic disturbances
  • 19 medical emergencies
  • 21 car accidents
  • 26 reports of suspicious people, vehicles or circumstances
  • 38 public service calls

According to the monthly report, officers drove a total of 16,785 miles during January and conducted 309 vacant property checks.

Officers also monitored for overweight vehicles at IESI Bethlehem Landfill and at other locations throughout the township on four separate occasions.

“Two citations were issued at the landfill and assistance, leading to a citation, was provided to the Hellertown Police Department for a truck that was several thousand pounds over the posted weight limit,” police said.

The department remains understaffed by one full-time officer “as a result of the unfunded position from the casino grant delay,” it noted.
