A Saucon Valley Middle School student was not seriously injured when a plastic pellet from an Airsoft-style pistol fired by an elementary school student struck her in the back while she was waiting at a school bus stop Friday morning, associate elementary school principal James Deegan said in an email to parents.

“The elementary student reported to be in possession of the pistol was spotted in the (school) lobby and was immediately brought into the main office,” Deegan said.

“All students involved in this incident were interviewed, parents/guardians called and school board policy followed,” he added. “Furthermore, we contacted the Hellertown Borough Police Department to report the incident and to speak with the student and their parents.”

According to a Wikipedia entry about the sport, “Airsoft pellets may leave red marks or ‘welts’ to their target, however rare that might be.”
