With a focus on Hellertown borough history this year, for the first time in recent memory there will be a grand marshal of the Saucon Valley Spirit Parade.

Parade chairman David Heintzelman recently requested Saucon Source’s help in soliciting nominations for the ceremonial position, which can be submitted directly to the parade committee (email:

da***@he***********.com

) or via the form below (please put “Parade Grand Marshal” in the subject line and the name of your nominee in the message box).

Heintzelman said recognizing a community leader will be a nice addition to the Sunday, Oct. 22 parade, which is a beloved Saucon Valley fall tradition.

Since he is the chairman of the parade, he asked to be excluded from consideration.

Although there are no formal criteria for nominees, they should have a deep connection to and knowledge of both the community and its residents.

Please submit nominations by Friday, Sept. 8. Please limit nominations to one per person.

The borough is celebrating the 275th anniversary of its founding in 2017, and this year’s parade theme is “Honoring Hellertown’s Past.” (Click here for the parade registration form.)

Several bands who will march in the parade have already been announced, including the Palisades High School marching band and the East Stroudsburg University Warrior Marching Band.

Like and follow the parade Facebook page for future updates about the event.
