Motorists should avoid both I-78 eastbound and westbound between the Cedar Crest Boulevard exit in South Whitehall and the Rt. 309 split in Upper Saucon Township following a serious tractor-trailer accident on the hill between the Lehigh Street and Summit lawn exits Saturday morning.

The accident occurred as heavy rain fell across the area, and according to updates posted on the Waze app traffic is currently at a near-standstill for miles on both sides of it.

Police and emergency responders are at the scene of the wreck.

A video filmed by an eyewitness at the accident scene shows the big rig jack-knifed across the median barrier between the east and westbound lanes.

It is unclear if any other vehicles were involved.

Traffic is reportedly heavy on Emaus Avenue, Rt. 145 (S. Fourth Street) and other local roads in the area, as motorists detour around the congested section of I-78.

It is unknown if there are any injuries as a result of the accident.
