John “Jack” Francis Murphy, 82, formerly of Lower Saucon Township, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 at his residence. He was the husband of Sally J. (Frey) Murphy. John was born in Scranton on June 6, 1936 to the late Joseph Leo and Mary N. (Makaravich) Murphy. He served our country faithfully in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. John was a Vice President of Operations and Planning for the former Hess’s Department Store. He designed the parking deck and was instrumental in the building of 78 stores. He worked at Hess’s for 28 years until his retirement. Jack was a member of Steel Club, Hellertown, and enjoyed golfing.
In addition to his loving wife of 48 years; children: Shelly A. Thomas of Nazareth, Sharon M. Meyer of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Sean J. (Barbara J.) of Lower Nazareth Township, Ryan C. of Allentown; brother: Joseph R. of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren; and two twin great-grandsons. He was predeceased by a sister: Patricia Ann Murphy.
