Panthers Bash Bangor (Brought to You by Spirk Brothers Inc.)

Saucon Valley continues to dominate Colonial League wrestling.  Coach Shirk & Company remain undefeated this season and have won seventy consecutive Colonial League matches.  Saucon took a road-trip to Bangor on Wednesday night where they battled and bashed the Slaters for a little over an hour.

Saucon Valley continues to dominate Colonial League wrestling.  Coach Shirk & Company remain undefeated this season and have won seventy consecutive Colonial League matches.  Saucon took a road-trip to Bangor on Wednesday night where they battled and bashed the Slaters for a little over an hour.  It was undoubtedly a festive bus ride home for the Panthers as they returned as 58-15 victors.

Of the 14 matches wrestled, Saucon Valley won eleven.  10 of the 11 were won with bonus points.  The Panthers picked up seven pins courtesy of Connor Nicholas (106), Cael Markle (120), Josh Jones (132), Nick Rosengrant (145), Braydyn Lugardo (182), Dane Csencsits (195) and Nick Warnke (285).  All falls came in the first period except for Rosengrant who earned his pin about half-way through the second period after building an 8-1 lead.  Csencsits (16-4) planted Bangor’s Joey Schrader and his 19-2 record flat in the first period to give Schrader his second loss of the 2018-2019 season. Junior Nick Warnke, claimed the quickest fall of the night pancaking his opponent in :46.

Saucon Valley also earned bonus points from Thomas Spirk (138), Chris Arciuolo (113) and Jarrett Hirschbeck (170).  Spirk, a junior, quickly smothered his opponent and manufactured a 7-0 advantage.  Spirk then parlayed a reversal to start the second period into six near-fall-points which ended the bout at 15-0.  Arciuolo and Hirschbeck each had major-decisions for the Panthers.  Arciuolo scored six, third-period points for his 10-1 victory while Hirschbeck never trailed in an entertaining match that included four reversals.  Hirschbeck won 16-5.

Matt Arciuolo (160) added a decision for Saucon Valley after defeating Paul Mastrogiavanni.  Arciuolo took advantage of his four takedowns to earn a 9-5 victory and improved to an 18-4 record. Mastrogiovanni, who battled hard, slipped to 19-4.

Up Next: On Saturday, Saucon Valley will join fifteen other teams from PA, NJ and DE and participate in the Souderton Big Red Duals.   Wrestling action starts at 8 a.m. with the Finals scheduled to take place around 6:30 p.m.  Then, on Tuesday, Jan. 15th, the Panthers (5-0) get back to Colonial League action with a road trip to Palmerton (2-3) to take on the Blue Bombers.
