The unofficial results from Tuesday's election are in, and they include winners and losers in a number of important local races, including Hellertown Borough Council, Lower Saucon Township Council and Saucon Valley School Board. Lower Saucon Township voters also cast ballots in a referendum on instituting term limits for council members.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7, when a number of important local races will be decided. Among the most-watched races are those for Lower Saucon Township Council, Saucon Valley School Board and Hellertown Borough Council.Â
Jayne Shinko of Hellertown says state Rep. Milou Mackenzie's letter in which she questioned "outsider" influence in the Lower Saucon Township Council race failed to identify the "mega outsider" in the race. Shinko says that entity is "Waste Connections, a huge Texas corporation which has papered both Lower Saucon and Hellertown with political signs and filled our mailboxes with inaccurate political broadsides, all to advance its own self-interest and the growth of the Bethlehem Landfill rather than the interest of our community."
Writing as a resident, Milou Mackenzie of Lower Saucon Township says she believes "outsiders" who "seem interested only in issues that stand to benefit neighboring Hellertown"--including state Rep. Robert Freeman (D-136)--are trying to influence what happens in this year's township council race. Mackenzie is a Republican state representative who represents parts of Lower Saucon Township, as does Freeman.
