Panthers Destroy Crusaders’ Hopes for a Win on Senior Night

It is an unwritten rule that high school soccer teams choose to have their senior day when they are playing a team they feel they can easily beat. At the end of the game Thursday night, Notre Dame was regretting their decision to host the Saucon Valley boys soccer team on the night they chose to honor their seniors.

Lady Panthers Clinch Playoff Berth with Win Over NDGP

Despite Friday’s wind chill, the Saucon Valley girls soccer team (8-3-0) was red hot for their last home game of the regular season, capturing both a win over the Notre Dame-Green Pond Crusaders (4-6-1) and a chance to play for the Colonial League title in the postseason.

Saturday’s home openers for the Saucon Valley varsity and JV girls basketball teams didn’t exactly go the way the players and coaches wanted them to, but they were a start, and there is plenty of time left this season for the Panther girls to turn things around. The varsity team lost to Notre Dame-Green Pond 59-12. The JV team’s game was more competitive, but the Panthers still came up short, losing to the Crusaders 36-29. For the varsity team, Saucon’s high scorer was sophomore Ally Frace, who netted 6 points during the game. Notre Dame’s high scorers were Antonia Bates and Grace Hezel, each of whom landed 14 points for the Crusaders. In away play on Monday, the Lady Panthers lost to Palmerton, 64-30.

Gritty Panthers Battle But Fall to Lady Crusaders

Last night the Saucon Valley Lady Panthers hit the floor at Notre Dame Green Pond High School to battle with the Colonial League East leading Crusaders. Notre Dame is a traditional basketball powerhouse and put their record on the line against the Panthers. The Panthers were not able to keep pace on the scoreboard, but they certainly showed a tremendous amount of grit and played with an admirable, spirited effort. The Panthers fought hard, but lost 53-27.

It is not very often that the guys on the offensive line get recognized for their efforts on the football field. I am sure Zach Petiet and Brandon Holub and the others who tote the pigskin will be among the first to credit their teammates affectionately know as the Hogs. Well, we here at Saucon Source love the Hogs and after seeing this video clip from last night’s game we are sure you will, too.

It was a high-stakes competition last night between the Colonial League leading Notre Dame Crusaders and Saucon Valley Panthers. With the league title on the line between the two talented teams, few doubted it would be an intensely tight game. It took 47 of the 48 regulation minutes, but the Panthers proved that they were the better squad. The Panthers outlasted the Crusaders 28-24 and have clinched at least a share of a third consecutive Colonial League championship. It was a high school football classic.

It will be a CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT! The 7-1 Saucon Valley Panthers travel to the 7-1 Notre Dame (Green Pond) Crusaders. Last year both teams met Week 9 when they were both undefeated. The Panthers won a nail-biter. This year, even though each team has a loss, the stakes remain the same. The 2016 Colonial League title is on the line. The winner will be in the driver’s seat for the Colonial League championship.
