Pennsylvania State Police at Bethlehem have released additional information about a fatal accident that occurred on Rt. 22 near Bethlehem Tuesday–and it involves a Saucon Valley resident.

According to a police news release issued early Wednesday, the crash involved a car and a Lehigh University bus that was being driven by a 60-year-old Hellertown man.

Police said that shortly before 6 p.m., Terry Wayne Johnson was behind the wheel of the 2002 Freightliner bus when it was struck from behind by a 2004 Acura CL driven by Rodney Dale Sigley Jr., 28, of Quakertown.

The accident–in which Sigley was killed–occurred near the Schoenersville Road exit on Rt. 22 in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, police said.

After Sigley’s Acura hit the bus, police said the bus flipped onto its roof and sustained “severe” front and rear end damage.

The Acura also sustained severe damage to its front end and caught fire, according to the news release.

Police said Johnson was wearing both lap and shoulder seat belts at the time of the crash and suffered minor injuries as a result.

All of the students who were passengers on the bus were evaluated by medical personnel and were “treated and released with no major injuries,” police added.

The accident–which remains under investigation–closed a busy stretch of Rt. 22 at rush hour.
