A woman who drew the attention of Giant staff when her car was observed unmoved in the store’s parking lot for nearly seven hours Sept. 20 subsequently drew the attention of Lower Saucon Township Police, who say they arrived at the Creekside Marketplace shopping center at 1880 Leithsville Road shortly before 3 p.m. to perform a welfare check on her.

According to a news release, officers found Karime Shoeniger, 50, of the 1800 block of Ringing Rocks Road, Upper Black Eddy, Bucks County, inside her car, which was parked in the space closest to the store’s south entrance.

“The rear door was open and a pair of bare feet were hanging out,” police said. “Karime was found passed out on the back seat with an extremely strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle.”

After waking her, police said Schoeniger showed “multiple signs of impairment,” including barely being able to remain conscious.

“After each slight break in direct contact, Karime would fall over in the seat and be out again,” police said. “In the vehicle and directly outside at her feet two empty bottles of sherry cooking wine (with a) 17 percent alcohol (content) were found.”

Police added that inside Schoeniger’s purse “multiple prescription bottles” were found, including an empty bottle of Ambien–a prescription sleep medication–that had contained 30 pills when it was filled four days earlier.

A breathalyzer reading indicated that Schoeniger’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was .27 percent, which is more than three times the legal limit of .08, police said.

At that point an ambulance was called because officers were concerned about the combination of alcohol and prescription drugs Schoeniger had allegedly ingested, police said.

The news release issued by police indicated Schoeniger will be charged with public drunkenness.
